Report: Japan decides to stay in Sakhalin-1 project
MOSCOW, Oct 31 (PRIME) -- Japan will continue its participation in Russia’s Sakhalin-1 hydrocarbon project as it needs stable supplies of energy sources, Nikkei newspaper reported on Monday without disclosing its sources.
“The Japanese government has decided to continue participation in Russia’s oil-and-gas project Sakhalin-1, which was earlier headed by Exxon. According to Nikkei’s information, the reason is that Japan wants to ensure stable supplies of energy sources despite multinational sanctions, slapped against Moscow,” the newspaper reported.
Nikkei added that supplies from the Middle East now account for 95% of Japan’s oil imports.
